I have known Dana for years and years. We both worked together as pharma sales reps long before marriages and babies. We kept in touch over the years and she hired me a few times to photograph her sweet family and we shared laughs whenever we could. Dana has the most infections laugh and when I see it in photos I can hear it perfectly. When she asked me to capture this particular shoot, I thought it would be different with her because she was losing her long hard fight with cancer. I mean truthfully, she was terminal. And it turns out she passed a few months after this day on the beach. The crazy thing is, it wasn’t different that day. She was the same. She laughed hard with her husband, cracked jokes, hugged her boys. It mean so much to her to have her family together because she knew she didn’t have an infinite amount of time left.
I say it all the time and I truly mean it…what I do for people is so much more than just showing up and snapping photos. I hope that Danas family will look at these fondly for years and year and years. <3
