The#1 mistake people make when choosing a photographer is…
I am going to cut right to the chase here…its cost.
If you are going after the cheapest buy…than I assure you, you will likely get photos that reflect that value. I know cost is always going to factor in…I am fully aware of the fact that photography is a luxury for some….but remember you don’t get a do-over when it comes to photography. If you aren’t happy with your photos, you can’t get back the time (or the money). Your babies or littles or teens are only babies, littles, or teens for a tiny bit of time. Your family only looks just this way right now for a hot second. I promise you this is a fact..I know this from experience. I am staring down my kids turning 7, 10, 13 and 16 this year. WHAT?! And I can tell you with total honestly, I have invested in photography since my kids were newborns…(yes, me, the photographer) and I can firmly say that I don’t regret one penny spent on any of it.
Why the cost?
Well, I can get into all kinds of boring stuff like insurance, taxes, gear, staff, blah blah blah…but truthfully, at this point in my career, my clients are paying me because they trust me. They trust the photography, yes of course, but more importantly, they trust ME. Many of my clients have been with me for as long as 9 years. Many of those come yearly or a few times a year even. These are people who value our relationship and value the photography I offer.
If I am not your cup of tea, I would urge you to do your homework! Don’t just jump in and out of a photographers website based on cost alone. Find out who they are, learn their values, learn what the intention of their brand is, and most importantly, choose someone who is a good all-around fit for YOU. I promise you, it is something you will never ever regret investing in!
