Getting a newborn to sleep is not as easy as it might seem. Ask any new Mom and she will wholeheartedly agree, right? So how do I get these precious newbies to snooze? Here are some pro tips that you can keep in mind when bringing your baby to the studio for a newborn session (hint hint…these work at home too!).
1.) Don’t stress. First and foremost rule! Don’t worry about when your baby last ate, slept, or was changed, and more importantly, don’t worry about how late you are running for your session! Remember I’ve been there 4 times, and I remember all too well how hard these first few weeks can be! This is why I schedule plenty of time for all of the things to go wrong. Plus, your baby knows when you’re stressed. You will have lots of time to feed, change, and do whatever makes your baby happy.
2.). Bring them in 1, light-colored layer. A onesie or sleeper that can easily be swaddled is ideal. I start right away with the baby out of the car seat and into a swaddle so I can get those safe shots before we even take a piece of clothing off. Remember step 1…if this doesn’t work and you need to feed or change because your little precious isn’t cooperating, no worries this is just a guide…there is no handbook to every single baby or session! They are the boss.
3.) Be prepared for the studio to be warm! Like actually borderline hot. We need to trick that little cutie feeling like they are back in the womb…swaddled, cuddled, and toasty warm!
Full bellies, warmth, and low stressed Moms are the secret to success!
